Berks County, Pennsylvania

Berks County is in the southeast corner of Pennsylvania.  Greenwich Township is in the north of the county along the line with Lehigh County. The county was formed on March 11, 1752 -- a year after George Bowman bought his 118-acre farm -- from parts of Chester, Lancaster and Philadelphia counties.  It was named after William Penn's family home of Berkshire, England.  Berks and Philadelphia counties are now separated by Montgomery County, formed in 1784 from land outside the city of Philadelphia.

Greenwich Township

George Bowman's 118-plus acres were in the northeast corner of Greenwich Township.  At the time of purchase, the area was part of Philadelphia County.  Berks County was not formed until 1752.
